Energy and Buildings

Chair: Steve Lloyd salloyd@syr.edu

    Curriculum

    Chair: Elet Callahan escallah@syr.edu

Members of this committee work to increase academic coverage of sustainability issues across disciplines. Increasing the number of sustainability-related courses, applying various aspects of sustainability to coursework, and increasing the number of internship opportunities for students are all ways to achieve campus sustainability.

    University Investments

    Chair: Eric Ripley emripley@syr.edu

This committee's focus is to address the management of the SU endowment and to move management towards sustainability. We have worked with SU administration to encourage endowment managers to vote proxies regarding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues of concern at portfolio companies.

    Green Purchasing and Recycling

    Chair: Tina Julian cmjulian@syr.edu

This committee is committed to working on increasing the amount of waste SU recycles. By increasing visibility of the importance of recycling across campus, working with physical facilities, administration, faculty and students, this committee hopes to make recycling a priority in the campus community.

    Food Services and Composting

    Chair: Mark Tewksbury mhtewksb@syr.edu

This committee is currently working on implementing a composting system in SU's residence halls, working to reduce carryout food container waste and other food sustainability issues in the campus community.

    Transportation

    Chair: Pete King pdking@syr.edu

This committee's work focuses primarily on campus commuting by working to increase bike and bus usage through improved service, awareness and safety.

    Student Life and Campus Culture

    Chair: Jeanne Steffes jsteffes@syr.edu

This committee works to promote practices and student educational strategies that foster self-sustaining and healthier environmental, social and economic systems. Through the promotion of sustainable living programs, recycling efforts, Earth Day community clean-ups, -Ten Tons of Love Program, Social Justice Awareness programs, World AIDS Day, governmental process and systems awareness, awareness programming for diversity and inclusiveness, and programming on building effective-change skills through the development of sustainability-themed action campaigns such as healthier ecosystems, healthier economies and social justice.
